Business Services Traineeships for First Nations People

Our business services traineeships provide opportunities for First Nations people to join the energy industry in a variety of roles.

A traineeship is a great way to kick start your career, with combined formal learning and on-the-job training, your journey will be supported by a great crew and professional training team. You will continue to grow and develop and have fantastic career pathway options and opportunities. A number of opportunities are available for our 2025 program, commencing in February 2025. These traineeships are a 12 month program and combine structured nationally recognised training with on-the-job experience, specifically designed for First Nations people.

In 2025 we are proud to offer business services traineeships for First Nations people in the following positions:

Service Delivery Officer Trainee

As a Service Delivery Officer, you will deliver administrative services within Network Services ensuring reliable and accurate information is available to facilitate the efficient operation of the Division in achieving its business goals. You will also undertake a broad range of administrative tasks to meet both regional and stakeholder requirements.

The Service Delivery Officer Traineeship is a one-year program, with a combination of structured training from our external training providers and on-the-job experience. 

Contract Administrator Officer Trainee

As a Contract Administrator Trainee, you will help support the development, negotiation and promotion of all contract and contract management functions including supplier performance management and communicate with contractors and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and address concerns.

You will liaise and communicate professionally with a range of internal and external stakeholders providing professional services and contact administrative functions to meet and support the achievement of business objectives.

Finance Analyst Trainee

As a Finance Analyst Trainee, you will support the Finance Team and be engaged in a variety of activities to support the effective operations of Finance Transactions and services, ensuring all processing and activities comply with legislation, policy and procedures.

You will undertake activities that support the development, maintenance and ongoing improvement of systems, processes, user education as well as policies and documentation to drive transactional efficiency across the function and support operational and supporting obligations. 

Customer Service Trainee

As a Customer Service Trainee, you will join the Customer Service team and learn how to provide Essential Energy’s customers with a positive customer experience. You will ensure everyday excellence in every interaction and that we continue to provide customers with safe and reliable power. You will gain experience with customer-centric teams who are passionate about our customers and the service that they provide.

You will gain a Certificate III in Business and valuable skills through a combination of structured training from our Customer Service team, external training providers and on-the-job experience. You will have access to the latest training, ensuring your skills and knowledge are at the forefront of the industry. You will learn about interacting with customers, how to have a good eye for detail and how to use technology to do a great job every day.

Service Desk Officer Trainee

As a Service Desk Officer Trainee, you will help to provide centralised remote support and service to the Essential Energy business, and this will be accomplished by both proactive and reactive means via phone and email. You will manage incidents through to resolution, communicating with technical staff and customers to ensure satisfactory outcomes.

How much will I earn as a Business Services Trainee?

Business Services Trainee - under 21 years $674.58 $107.93 $782.51
Business Services Trainee - 21 years and over $819.57 $131.13 $950.70

Note: Rate as of 1 July 2023, with yearly CPI changes in line with the relevant Enterprise Agreement.
*Allowances are paid in addition to this amount. All costs associated with travelling for training and work are paid for by Essential Energy.

  • What is the recruitment process?
    1. Online application
      Complete an online application form, including uploading a copy of your up-to-date resume and a cover letter.
    2. Online assessments
      On submission of a complete application, you will be asked to undertake online assessments covering Clerical (approx. 5 mins) and Word Knowledge (approx. 10 mins).
    3. Interview
      One-on-one interview.
    4. Preemployment checks
      Including reference, medical and a National Police check.
    5. Offer
      Formal offer of employment.
    6. Induction commences February 2025
